Made in Tajimi, Gifu
Tajimi, in Gifu Prefecture, is one of Japan’s major pottery regions and the center of Mino ware—one of the country’s three main ceramic traditions.
This area is known for its connection to everyday life and produces more than half of Japan’s ceramics.
Mr. Eiji Miyaki, born and raised in Tajimi, opened his own kiln there in 2004 and continues to work in this historic setting.

How the Drippy Series Began
While developing another piece, Mr. Miyaki began experimenting with glaze dripping as part of his tests. The visual effect stood out, and he decided to apply it to a mug after adjusting the glaze formula.
The positive response led him to continue developing the drippy technique as part of his practice.

Matcha Bowl
Mr. Miyaki sees the matcha bowl as a flexible form—one that doesn’t need to follow the rules of formal tea ceremony.
By keeping some distance from traditional practice, he’s able to approach the shape and surface in his own way.
He focused on how it feels in the hand and how it fits into everyday use.
For this collaboration with Zenkyu Matcha, Mr. Miyaki developed a soft green glaze specifically for this bowl. He sees the way it matched the concept as a key reason for the bowl’s success.
